A Time-Honored Tradition

Prophecy, foretelling, and predicting the future have been a part of human experience since the very beginning

“Divination (from Latin divinare, 'to foresee, to foretell, to predict, to prophesy' related to divinus, 'divine'), or "to be inspired by a god," is the attempt to gain insight into a question or situation by way of an occultic, standardized process or ritual. Used in various forms throughout history, diviners ascertain their interpretations of how a querent should proceed by reading signs, events, or omens, or through alleged contact with a supernatural agency.”

In a religious context, predicting the future is called Prophecy.

Nearly all organized religions acknowledge some form of prophecy or foretelling the future.

According to Maimonides (1138–1204) a medieval Jewish philosopher and one of the most influential Torah scholars of the middle ages, “prophecy is, in truth and reality, an emanation sent forth by Divine Being through the medium of the Active Intellect.”

Many devout Christians believe that the gift of prophecy is the supernatural ability to receive and convey a message from God. Islam uses the term rasūl, which means those who bring a divine revelation via an angel.

In ancient China, divination is regarded as the oldest form of occult inquiry. Buddhism shares tales of incredible foretelling, as do Native American traditions. And there are many documented examples of individual prophets, such as Nostradamus, spanning the course of written history, who saw future events and recorded them for generations to follow. Both oracles and seers in ancient Greece practiced divination. For more information regarding the history of divination, visit THIS PAGE @ WIKIPEDIA.

Other terms and titles used for a spiritual gift of this nature include: oracle, seer, revelator, mystic, shaman, guru, divination, prediction, foresee, foretell, insight, gift, the sight, empath, psychic, intuitive, knowing, gypsy, witch, and others.

Tarot Cards - Tarot reading is a form of cartomancy where advisers use a deck of tarot cards on behalf of a questioner (or querant) in order to offer insight into their past, present or future.

This art-form has a long history and many believe the practice of reading cards can be traced to ancient Egypt and the mysteries of Isis.

The first person to assign divinatory meanings to the tarot cards was cartomancer Jean-Baptiste Alliette (also known as Etteilla) in 1783. He was the first to create a revised tarot deck specifically designed for occult purposes.

Etteilla suggested that tarot was:

  • a repository of Hermetic wisdom

  • a book of eternal medicine

  • an account of the creation of the world, and

  • argued that the first copy of the tarot was imprinted on leaves of gold

Other Methods of Divination - There are literally hundreds, if not thousands, of types of divination. Some of the more common modern-day methods include; runes, crystals, pendulum, crystal ball, scrying. For these and information on other kinds of intuitive sight, visit THIS PAGE @ WIKIPEDIA.
